Northern Ireland holds elections for its provisional assembly tomorrow. The main contenders are the Democratic Unionist Party (pro-Britain) and Sinn Fein (the political wing of the IRA). The Council on Foreign Relations provides a much better overview of the issues at stake than I care to. The biggest question is whether the two rival parties will be willing to share power.
Also of interest, the election uses the "single transferable vote" or instant runoff voting, which I've long thought is easily the most sensible way of voting. The Center for Voting and Democracy has resources on efforts (what few there are) to introduce the system in the US.

I didn't know anyone actually did that IRV stuff. I love that it prevents spoiler candidates (ex: nader), and I like that it discourages centrist candidates, unlike other rank-em systems. At least, I like that in a stable state. Maybe some nondescript centrist candidate would be helpful in a place like northern ireland...
