India and Slumdog

Somini Sengupta's description (NYT) of the joyous reaction in India to Slumdog's victory confirms my earlier skepticism about the reports of anti-Slumdog sentiment in the country. I'm certainly no expert, but during my three weeks in India last year, there must have been stories of at least three different movies being boycotted (sometimes along with protests, riots, etc), for this reason or that. As far as I can tell, if your film doesn't attract protests, it just means it's pretty bland.
